John Lee Ka-chiu is scheduled to visit Indonesia next week. The visit is part of the Hong Kong Chief Executive's 7-day work trip to three ASEAN countries.

Before going to Indonesia, John Lee is scheduled to meet Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Sunday (23/7/2023). Lee will be in Singapore until Tuesday (25/7/2023). After that he is scheduled to fly to Jakarta and then arrive in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday (27/7/2023). Lee will return to the Land of Concrete next Saturday.

“Five top officials, including Deputy Finance Secretary Michael Wong Wai-lun, Head of Finance and Financial Services Christopher Hui Ching-yu, Head of Economic Development and Commerce Algernon Yau Ying-wah, czar of transportation and logistics Lam Sai-hung, and innovation, technology and industry boss Sun Dong will be in Lee's delegation. Also on board are around 30 high-level representatives from the above sectors,” wrote The Standard Hong Kong.

The trip to the three Southeast Asian countries, said John Lee, was aimed at further strengthening cooperation with ASEAN countries in the fields of trade, economy and investment. Primarily, to explore various business opportunities.

The visit also aims to tell Hong Kong's good stories by introducing Hong Kong's latest strengths and opportunities to the local political and business community in Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia. “Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia are the three main members of ASEAN, which is Hong Kong's second-largest trading partner and fifth-largest economy in the world,” wrote The Standard.

Lee will also encourage ASEAN companies to expand their business in Hong Kong and explore the Greater Bay Area Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau market by leveraging Hong Kong's professional services and financing platforms. He will also visit local companies and major infrastructure projects to explore collaboration opportunities between Hong Kong and ASEAN countries in trade, economy and infrastructure.
