2 Weeks of Zero Local Cases, Hong Kong relaxes social distancing rules

DDHK.ORG - On Monday (21/6/2021) the government announced further easing of social distancing rules. The optimistic step was taken because Hong Kong recorded zero local coronavirus cases for 14 consecutive days.

This was reported by Radio and Television Hong Kong (RTHK). "But the restriction (maximum) of 4 people at public gatherings remains in effect," wrote RTHK.

Starting Thursday (24/6/2021), the restaurant can operate at full capacity. The condition is that all of its employees have received the full vaccine injection and two-thirds of its customers have been vaccinated, at least the first dose.

“The restaurant will be able to host a banquet for up to 180 guests,” RTHK wrote.

Religious activities, weddings and business meetings will also be allowed to take place at full capacity. The condition is that two thirds of the participants have been injected with the vaccine.

Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam hopes the new provisions on easing social distancing rules will encourage more people to get vaccinated. “If business actors and participants want to take the vaccine, the relaxation will be much higher. I hope this is a good enough incentive to attract and encourage people to take the vaccine."

7 Days Quarantine for Overseas Immigrants

Carrie Lam also announced that foreign arrivals who have been injected with the vaccine will only be required to undergo a 7-day quarantine. The terms are down from the previous 14 days. The condition is that they test positive for antibodies or have immunity to Covid-19.

“The passenger has to book a longer quarantine period, say 14 days. But if on the second or third day he is notified that your antibody test is positive, then you can leave the designated hotel a week early," Lam said.

On Monday, the Hong Kong Center for Health Protection reported 3 imported cases of the coronavirus. The two patients flew in from the UK. The third patient came from Indonesia. All of them have the L452R mutant variant of the coronavirus. [DDHK News]
