There is no prayer room at the employer's house

DDHK. ORG – Prayer is a must for Muslims and Muslimat. But what if the employer's house is not available place of prayer? Check out the answers in the consultation together chaplain the following.

Assalamualaikum, sorry I'm Aida, I want to consult there is a little problem.

I've only been with my employer for three months, I want to pray, but where I work there is no place for prayer. There is an empty room but not facing the Qiblah.

I've been trying to move things around so it's enough but can't. The small house has no rooms, the bed is only separated by a cupboard, grandmother also doesn't allow prayers, so she hides as much as possible. Please enlighten.

Thank you, wassalamualaikum.

Facing the Qiblah is a condition for the validity of prayer. If the prayer is not facing the Qiblah, then it is invalid. However, there are several conditions in which a Muslim may not face the Qiblah, such as during a war.

Then what is the law for someone who lives with a non-Muslim employer who only provides a narrow room that is even less or not enough to be used as a place to pray, especially when facing the Qibla?

Added to this is the attitude of the employer who tends to forbid his household assistants to freely pray.

There needs to be a fatwa on phenomena like the one above. Moreover, a fatwa can be temporary and conditional. Especially for our Muslim brothers and sisters who live in countries where the majority are not Muslim.

If there is still enough room for us to stand facing the Qiblah, then do it. As for if later when bowing and prostrating it is difficult to keep facing the Qibla, then move a little as long as we need it. Because basically facing the Qiblah is in its direction, not in essence where the Kaaba is specifically located.

This is in accordance with the words of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam:

مَا بَيْنَ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ قِبْلَةٌ (رواه الترمذي)

"The direction that stretches between east and west is Qibla." (HR Tirmidhi)

If in the middle of the prayer, you have to tilt with a normal and reasonable slope, then there is nothing wrong with that if the room conditions are very narrow.

Imam Ibn 'Abidin in his hasyiyah said:

النحراف اليسير لا يضر

"A slight incline is fine."

Imam al-Bahuti Rahimahullah also said:

ََ ِضَََََِ ََِّْ

"People who are far from the Kaaba are required to face the Kaaba, so there is nothing wrong if it is slightly tilted to the right or left normally."

Even a slight tilt under normal circumstances is understandable, especially in an emergency.

Some Ulama give dispensation that the permissible tilt is no more than 45 degrees. However, this size could be more if conditions really do not allow it.

Meanwhile, if the employer does not allow prayer, then look for and steal time so that you can still do it. Don't forget to always ask Allah to give you a way out and ease of every problem you face.

Wallãhu a'lam

Hope it works!

Peace, mercy and blessings of God
