Macau's Covid-19 Spike: The Positives Keep Growing

DDHK.ORG - Since the spike in Covid-19 in Macau last weekend, the number of new confirmed positive cases has continued to grow. Macau's health authorities announced that as of 9:00 am on Thursday, June 23, 2022, the cumulative number of infections was recorded at 110 cases.

In details, the people who were followed up were 4.109 people, close contacts 554, the same traveling people 2.496. While secondary close contacts 279, general contacts 108, and people who are considered as accompanying 562.

As previously reported, from Thursday morning Macau will be holding a second mass test which is mandatory for all residents of the country. The second nucleic acid mass test runs until 23:59 on Friday, with the same booking system as the first test, via https://eservice.ssm.gov.mo/allpeoplernatestbook.

During the announcement of the mass test, the Director of the Health Bureau, Alvis Lo, told the press that Macau residents were advised to "reduce the risk of crowds and virus transmission caused by large crowds during mass testing". Residents are also advised that before going to the test site, people must do an antigen test.

“If the result is negative, you can take the mass test. If it is positive, you must notify the authorities through a statement in the request for information and assistance to prevent the COVID-19 epidemic and cannot visit the test site," said Alvis.
The results of this mass test will be known on Saturday, 09:00. The duration of this test only lasted 39 hours.

Confirmed case site disinfection strengthened, private sector must close
The Bureau of Municipal Affairs is coordinating large-scale cleaning and disinfection work in areas such as the residences and work sites of confirmed cases, nearby streets, and public areas in buildings earlier today. In collaboration with the Macau Residue System Company and other cleaning contractors, this operation aims to reduce the possibility of the spread of infectious diseases.

At the same time, private sector companies are required to suspend activities and follow the example of the public administration to avoid unnecessary crowds during the current pandemic period in Macau. The policy was announced by Macau's Chief Executive, Ho Iat Seng, during a press conference on Thursday afternoon.

“The government has put forward this hypothesis by suspending public administration services and private sector companies can also follow this example,” said Ho Iat Seng.

He confirmed that the move was to "avoid unnecessary crowds" and added that "the ultimate goal is to reduce as much as possible to stop the transmission of the virus". [Source: TDM] [DDHKNews]
