DDHK.ORG - Kiai Miftachul Akhyar was officially re-elected as Rais Aam of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board for the period 2021-2026. The decision was made in the deliberations of 9 NU kiai who are members of Ahlul Halli wal Aqdi (AHWA) which was held at the University of Lampung, Friday (24/12/2021) in the morning.
"So we all agree that the kiai's elders agree that there is no difference of opinion. We have unanimously agreed to appoint kiai Miftachul Akhyar as Rais Aam PBNU 2021-2026," said one Ahwa member, Zainal Abidin.
The nine senior NU kiai who re-elect Kiai Miftachul as Rais Aam include Kiai Mustofa Bisri, Kiai Ma'ruf Amin, Kiai Miftachul Akhyar himself, Tuan Guru Turmudzi, and Kiai Anwar Manshur. Then, Kiai Nurul Huda Jazuli, Kiai Dimyati Rois, Kiai Ali Akbar M, and Kiai Zainal Abidin.
In the morning, the NU Congress held the election of the PBNU General Chair. Kiai Yahya Cholil Staquf was elected, defeating the incumbent, Kiai Said Aqil Siraj.
Gus Yahya, as he is usually called, was elected by direct election or voting from the congress participants, with 337 votes pocketed. Meanwhile, Kiai Said won 210 votes.
NU's son
Gus Yahya is the Head of Aam PBNU in the 2015-2020 period. Born in Rembang, February 16, 1966, Kiai Yahya is known as an Islamic intellectual figure. He was born in a family with a strong santri tradition. His father was Kiai Muhammad Cholil Bisri, an NU figure and founder of the National Awakening Party (PKB).
The fourth president of the Republic of Indonesia, Abdurrahman Wahid alias Gus Dur, once appointed Gus Yahya as a spokesman. In addition, Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has appointed Gus Yahya as a member of the Presidential Advisory Council (Wantimpres).
Meanwhile, Gus Miftachul was familiar with the NU environment from a young age. Because, he was born and raised from a scientific tradition and has served in the management of Nahdlatul Ulama since he was young.
Kiai Miftachul is the son of an NU kiai who takes care of the Tahsinul Akhlaq Rangkah Islamic Boarding School, Surabaya, named Kiai Abdul Ghoni. He is noted to have studied at various NU Islamic boarding schools such as Tambak Beras Islamic Boarding School, Sidogiri Islamic Boarding School, and Lasem Islamic Boarding School in Central Java.
