Kowloon Park, The Biggest Park in Hong Kong with Millions of Charms

Curious? Step in and relax in the Chinese Garden, which consists of two-tiered lotus ponds connected by stone cascades, and be sure to look for the tortoises basking in the sun.

If it's raining, listening to the raindrops on the leaves from the 200 meter long sheltered garden path is pure bliss.

There are also kung fu and lion dance shows every Sunday as well as the Hong Kong Avenue of Comic Stars on the east side of the park which features painted statues of local comic characters and bronze handprints by famous local comic artists.

Kowloon Park is one of the largest parks in Hong Kong. This park is characterized by holding a dazzling bird show every Friday morning.

With over 13 square hectares of land, Kowloon Park is right in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui off Nathan Road, meaning it's also one of the most popular.

Some amazing greenery and wildlife and indoor and outdoor pools, really worth the visit.

Like most Hong Kong parks, Kowloon Park has hardly any green open spaces and carefully tended little bits that do exist to gaze in awe, not sit.

If looking for a place to throw a Frisbee or spread a blanket and have a picnic, look to Victoria Park instead.

Kowloon Park has almost everything. Half is divided between the garden and the concrete; visitors will find small and decorative Chinese pagodas as well as small lakes and well-maintained labyrinths.

There are some excellent walking trails and lots of benches to sit out in the sun. One of the undoubted highlights of Kowloon Park is the band of striking pink flamingos surrounding the bird lake.

There is also a small birdcage. The piazza at the center of the park hosts regular events and live performances, including programs related to Chinese festivals. Every Sunday, between 2.30pm and 4.30pm, there are demonstrations of dragon dance and various martial arts.

Kowloon Park Sports Facility

During hot weather, which means most of the time in Hong Kong, the garden-built outdoor pool is completely full.

Curving around a public piazza, there are three different pools of varying depths and very inviting sunbathing areas. It is generally clean but not heated. Access is through the Kowloon Park Sports Centre, which also has an indoor swimming pool.

As well as an outdoor swimming pool, there are a pair of playgrounds available in the garden. For older kids, the Discovery Park playground sits amidst the cannons and turrets that once formed the defense for the park's barracks – perfect for hopping around on.

Kowloon Mosque and Hong Kong Heritage

Around the corner of the park is the Kowloon Mosque, the largest Islamic center of worship in Hong Kong. Built in 1984 to replace its century-old predecessor.

This mosque with impressive views has four minarets and a dome atop its white walls. Able to hold up to 2.000 worshipers and house to a prayer hall, clinic and library, it is the heart of the Muslim community in Hong Kong.

It's also here that the beautiful colonial building of the Hong Kong Heritage and Discovery Centre, with its sweeping verandah and Romanesque-inspired columns, is worth a visit.

Inside are exhibits about Hong Kong's origins, including archaeological treasures dating back 6.000 years. If you are interested in the history and development of Hong Kong, you will be much more satisfied with the richer, livelier and interactive exhibitions that the Hong Kong Heritage Museum organizes.
