Duke University Allows Friday Prayer Adhan

Duke University's call to prayer-in-towerDDHK News, United States - Duke University in the state of North Carolina, United States, allowed the prayer to pray for Friday Prayers on campus starting Friday this week with loudspeakers.

"The call to prayer is a call to prayer that brings Muslims back to their goal in life, which is to worship Allah, and serves as a reminder to serve our brothers and sisters," said Imam Adeel Zeb, an ustadz at Duke.

"The Muslim community is truly grateful and excited about the Duke's concern for religious and cultural diversity," he added.

According to a statement by university officials, members of the Duke Muslim Student Association will chant the call to prayer from Duke University's tower every Friday at 1pm.

The call to prayer will last about three minutes and will be heard quite loudly. The decision places Duke University among the few places in the United States where the call to prayer is permitted.

It is estimated that there are 6-7 million Muslims among the approximately 250 million population of America. (Muslimdaily.net/onislam.net). *
