Discussing Protection of Migrant Workers, Malaysian Minister of Home Affairs Meets Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah

DDHK. ORG – The protection of migrant workers is one of the discussions of the Minister of Home Affairs Malaysia, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail holding a meeting with the Indonesian Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah at the Ministry of Manpower office, South Jakarta, Monday (30/1/2023).

This is a follow-up meeting of the previous working visit of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Haji Anwar Ibrahim.

During a press briefing session at the Ministry of Manpower, Monday (30/1/2023) as reported Republika, Ida Fauziah said, this meeting was related to the protection of migrant workers Indonesia in Malaysia.

"Primarily protecting PMI in the domestic sector, in accordance with the memorandum of understanding regarding the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers in the Domestic Sector (MSP PMID) in Malaysia," he said.

In addition to the protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, this meeting also discussed post-implementation developments of the 1st and 2nd joint working groups on the implementation of the MSP PMID, the Workforce Recalibration Program (RTK).

It aims to legalize illegal immigrants (PATI) in Malaysia as legal foreign workers, and are employed by appropriate employers/employers according to the conditions set by the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) and Malaysian Ministry of Home Affairs.

Currently, according to Ida, the Malaysian Government has issued a policy program related to the latest version of RTK, namely RTK 2.0. In its implementation, the Government of Indonesia still requires more detailed and clear information from the Government of Malaysia for its implementation.

"We hope that an SOP will be published soon which can be a reference for services for foreign immigrants without permits who have been working for a long time in Malaysia so that they run smoothly," hoped Ida Fauziyah

In addition, Ida also conveyed the need for fair law enforcement against PMI and employers who break the law. This is a form of protection for migrant workers. Then both parties agreed to continue to build good communication between the two countries in the field of employment. So as to create a mutually beneficial relationship in the two countries.

On that occasion, Saifuddin conveyed, Malaysia is committed to upholding the law as fairly as possible for perpetrators of crimes in the domestic employment sector, both employers and workers themselves.

He also expressed his gratitude for the commitment that Indonesia will continue to be an important strategic partner in helping Malaysia.

"I repeat to the Minister that as a country that attaches importance to the rule of law for the establishment of Malaysia, we are committed to taking care of this matter. It is based on the principles of maqashid sharia, life safety, property safety, self-esteem, which cannot be compromised," said Saifuddin.

Saifuddin also said that migrant workers from Indonesia are the second largest in the neighboring country. Currently there are 393.314 migrant workers from Indonesia out of 1,7 million foreign workers who make a living in Malaysia.

This figure makes Indonesia the largest contributor of migrant workers after Bangladesh.

"That makes Indonesia's position now in number two after (after) Bangladesh," concluded Saifuddin. [DDHK News]
