As reported Republika, disaster management authorities Turki explained, six people died and 294 others were injured with 18 in critical condition after the 6,4 magnitude earthquake on Monday (20/2/2023).

Pro-government media reports Syria, a woman and a girl died as a result of panic during an earthquake in the provinces of Hama and Tartus. Meanwhile the civil defense organization of northwestern Syria White Helmets said about 190 people had suffered different injuries in rebel-held northwestern Syria.

Most of them, cases or broken bones and bruises. Several flimsy buildings collapsed and there were no cases of people trapped under the rubble.

This time, the epicenter was in the city of Defne, in Turkey's Hatay province, which borders Syria. The tremor was also felt in Jordan, Cyprus, Israel, Lebanon and as far away as Egypt, and was followed by a second magnitude 5,8 quake, and dozens of aftershocks.

It is known, Hatay was one of the hardest-hit provinces in Turkey in the 7,8 magnitude earthquake that occurred on February 6.

Thousands of buildings were destroyed in the province and this latest earthquake has further damaged buildings. The governor's office in Antakya, Hatay's historical heart, was also damaged.

Previously, officials had warned earthquake victims not to go into the remains of houses that still survive. But people did it to pick up the remnants of the remaining objects, so they were caught in the new quake.

The majority of deaths in the massive February 6 earthquake followed by a 7,5 magnitude quake nine hours later occurred in Turkey with at least 41.156 people killed. The epicenter was in the southern Kahramanmaras province.

Authorities said more than 110 buildings in Turkey's 11 quake-hit provinces were destroyed or damaged so badly that they needed to be demolished. [DDHK News]
