It's Responsive Action Dompet Dhuafa for Masamba Flash Flood Disaster

DDHK.ORG - Thousands of houses in the Masamba area, North Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi, were hit by flash floods, Monday night (13/07/2020). This flood was reported as

worst floods that hit the region. Hundreds of houses were submerged in mud mixed with sand after being hit by a two meter high flood.

Based on the last report submitted Dompet Dhuafa South Sulawesi, as of August 16, 2020, the flood disaster resulted in 38 deaths, 10 people reportedly still missing, 106 people were injured. Flash floods also damaged 13 places of worship, 4.202 houses, 9 schools, 3 health facilities and 2 public facilities.

To respond to the flash flood disaster in Masamba, Dompet Dhuafa deployed 22 personnel, 1 rescue car, 1 operational car, and 4 operational motorbikes. In the period 24 July to 15 August, several activities were carried out Dompet Dhuafa as a response to the Masamba flash flood disaster.

These activities include providing hand wash at the evacuation center in Meli Village (24 July) and cleaning up residual flash floods in residential areas (24 July).

Dompet Dhuafa also evacuating affected residents (4 August), preparing hot and cold drinks at the Meli refugee post with 180 beneficiaries, consisting of adults and children, and helping to oversee the Sacrificial Animal Spread program (2 August).

On August 14th, coordinated with the Sassa Village Government Dompet Dhuafa conducted health checks at the Lutra refugee camp, recorded drug stocks, carried out Covid-19 tests at the health office, conducted health checks and treatment in Salu Langgara Hamlet and Sabang Loang Hamlet, Sassa Village, Baebunta Lutra District, and conducted health education on the Covid-19 protocol by distributing mask in Salu Langgara Hamlet, Sassa Village.

At the same time, Dompet Dhuafa also carried out a rapid test at the North Luwu District Health Office, distributed schoolkit and cookingkit packages in the villages of Babelo and Tugu Coklat, and held coloring activities with children around the post. Dompet Dhuafa also held a mass cooking activity at the post with 100 portions of satay for the flood volunteers.

 

The day before (August 13), Dompet Dhuafa distributed 21 basic food packages to the evacuation post in Maipi Village, 5 basic food packages in Lembang-Lembang Village, and 1 basic food package in Bone Tua Village.

On August 15, Dompet Dhuafa also conducted an assessment for Psychological First Aid (PFA) on 14 heads of refugee families in Petambua Hamlet and helped distribute aid to them. Also, make bathing, washing, and toilet facilities (MCK).

Furthermore, there are several activity plans that will be carried out Dompet Dhuafa. Namely, managing and distributing aid logistics, conducting Psychosocial Support Services (LDP) to Chocolate Monument and Baliase, carrying out mobile kitchen activities with BPK Lara Campus, and distributing donations to child survivors at the Baebunta Market refugee post.

Dompet Dhuafa Sulawesi reported that currently the emergency needs that are urgently needed by the victims are temporary shelter facilities or permanent housing, logistics, kitchen utensils, clean water, hygiene kits, and sleeping mats. [DDHK. ORG]
