New Procedure for Foreign Domestic Worker Visa Application: All Online

DDHK.ORG - Hong Kong Immigration Department introduced a new “Smart Renewal” service to provide greater convenience for people applying for a foreign domestic worker (PRT) work visa. This was reported on the official government website Hong Kong, news.gov.hk, on March 4, 2021.

"Currently, those applying for a visa are required to pay a visa fee and collect a foreign domestic worker visa in person or through an official representative at the department office after their application is approved," wrote news.gov.hk.

Immigration Department officials said the new service would allow people who apply for visas online for their foreign domestic workers and pay their fees through various means once their applications are approved. Approved visas will be mailed to the employer's address.

After submitting an application via the department's dedicated webpage or mobile application, domestic workers who continue to work for the same employer can pay visa fees with a “General Request Note” attached to the notification of application results. Payment can be made in a number of ways, such as FPS, internet banking, Payment Services by Phone, ATM, or in person at a post office or convenience store.

Once the Immigration Department acknowledges receipt of the visa fee, the visa label or residence permit extension will be sent to the correspondence address provided by the employer and must be correctly affixed to the domestic worker passport as instructed.

During the application process, the applicant or employer does not need to attend any of the departmental offices to pay a visa fee or collect a visa label.

Application procedures as well as arrangements for payment of fees and collection of visa labels for other applications, such as entry visas, change of employers or visas for further employment of domestic workers who are submitted by other means, will not change.
