US Muslims Call for a Movement Against Islamophobia

Islamophobic-American MuslimsDDHK News, United States - Dozens of American Muslims (US) in Dallas called for rejection of anyone who views Islam cynically, Saturday (31/5).

This is done to prevent Islamophobia. They walked around the city and carried banners reading about Islam and its adherents.

Islamophobia is a symptom where non-Muslims are worried about meeting, talking, or doing activities together with Muslims.

So far, the Muslim community in the US thinks that many people misunderstand Islam. They sometimes look cynical and spread hatred towards every Muslim in the country.

Cynicism that leads to discrimination is sometimes encountered by Muslims in countries with a majority of non-Muslim populations.

This is what causes Islamophobia to arise in society. This disease brings misery to every Muslim who must face Islamophobes wherever they are.

A lawyer with a Christian education background admits that he often meets people who experience Islamophobia.

Yvonne Munoz, a lawyer who converted to Islam in 2008, says she wants to cure Islamophobia in everyone who experiences it.

"At first it was very difficult to handle them, but after explaining well and correctly about Islam they started to understand and behave well," said Munoz, as quoted from Dallas News, Saturday (31/5).

About 80 US Muslim activists gathered at Reverchon Park in Opponent Oak, Dallas to start peaceful protests against Islamophobia. Before starting the movement by walking around the city, they shared stories about experiences of discrimination that had been experienced in Uncle Sam's country.

US Muslim activists hope their movement can influence the thinking of everyone who views Islam badly. They want people to know that Islam is not a religion that is full of violence, but that there is peace in its teachings.

"I chose to become a Muslim because Islam brings peace to my life," said Nicole Queen, one of the Muslim activists who carry out the anti-Islamophobia movement, as reported republica.co.id from OnIslam, Sunday (1/6). (ROLLER)
