Malaysia-Philippines Establish Halal Industry Cooperation

Prime Minister (PM) of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim and President of the Philippines Ferdinand R Marcos Jr. held a meeting to discuss various bilateral issues, trade, investment and regional politics. The meeting of the two heads of neighboring countries in Southeast Asia also discussed cooperation on the halal industry.

This was conveyed by PM Anwar in a joint press conference in Putrajaya, Malaysia, Wednesday (26/7/2023). "They also discussed the potential for cooperation in the halal industry and those who still need to resolve certification issues. Together, the two countries must make calculations to ensure the halal industry can penetrate the Middle East market more effectively," said Republika.

President Marcos paid a three-day working visit to Malaysia, July 25-27. He said in the spirit of exploring synergies for future relations between the two countries, it was agreed that there would be a joint commission meeting between the Philippines and Malaysia in October 2023. Primarily, discussing issues of transnational crime, agriculture, the halal industry, Islamic banking, education, tourism, sports and the digital economy .

This includes closely coordinating capacity building in Bangsamoro, an autonomous region of Muslim Mindanao in the south of the Philippines, especially in the halal industry, Islamic banking and food security sectors.
