Hong Kong Removes Mask Rule From 1 March

DDHK. ORG – The mask rule in Hong Kong will finally be lifted. Starting March 1, the regulation on wearing masks indoors and indoors is lifted after being enforced in the past three years.

Reporting from SCMP.com, Hong Kong residents and tourists can freely not use mask starting Wednesday as the city finally lifts its last major Covid-19 restrictions in nearly three years.

At a media session before the Executive Board meeting on Tuesday, Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu announced the mask requirement inside and outside the city, as well as on public transport, would be abolished starting March 1.

While Kompas Launching, Hong Kong will revoke the mandatory mask rule starting Wednesday (1/3/2023). This was announced directly by Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee on Tuesday (28/2/2023).

Hong Kong is one of the last places in the world to make the wearing of masks mandatory due to Covid-19 in almost all public places.

Previously, Hong Kong authorities also required everyone over the age of two to wear a mask if they did not want to face a fine of up to 10.000 Hong Kong dollars (about 19,4 million).

"I announce that the mask requirement will be completely scrapped from tomorrow, March 1, including for indoors, outdoors and on public transport," Lee told a news conference.

He added that hospitals and nursing homes could impose their own restrictions regarding the use of masks. The mask mandate in Hong Kong has been in effect for three years or nearly 1.000 days ago.

The lifting of restrictions in Hong Kong comes shortly after its neighboring Chinese territory, Macau, relaxed its own mask-wearing rules on Monday (26/2/2023).
