Be Careful, Crossing the Street Recklessly You Can Be Fined HK $ 2,000 in Hong Kong

On Monday (14/8/2023) the Hong Kong police took action to crack down on pedestrians crossing the street carelessly. This was done in order to reduce the number of accidents on the highway.

"Officers said they were strengthening their enforcement actions after the police force recorded a spike in fatal traffic accidents this year, involving 61 deaths so far," RTHK said.

Police say many of the accidents stem from pedestrians ignoring traffic lights, using their cell phones when crossing the street, or walking along the path of cars. Hong Kong police urged people to obey traffic rules.

“Violators can be fined up to HK$2,000 or even face lawsuits in court.”
