99,9 Percent of Indonesia Experiencing Economic Recession Next Month

DDHK.ORG - In September, Indonesia is predicted to experience an economic recession. This was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Polhukam) Mahfud MD.

"Next month, it is almost certain that there will be an economic recession in Indonesia 99,9 percent," said Mahfud as quoted by Antara, as reported by CNN Indonesia, Monday (31/8/2020).

As is known, an economic recession occurs when a country experiences negative growth in two consecutive quarters. Mahfud MD predicts that Indonesia's economic growth will experience a contraction in the range of minus 0,5 percent to 2,2 percent.

He appealed to the public not to panic, because an economic recession does not mean a crisis. "But the recession is not a crisis," he said.

Mahfud MD emphasized that the government has anticipated this condition. One of them is by issuing Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 82 of 2020 concerning the Committee for Handling Covid-19 and National Economic Recovery. [DDHK]
