4 People Died Due to Landslide in Banjarnegara

DDHK.ORG - A landslide hit Banjarnegara Regency, Central Java, on Friday (19/11/2021) night. Reportedly, 4 residents died as a result of the disaster that occurred around 21.30 WIB.

"The latest developments on Saturday, at 05.30 WIB, all residents who died have been successfully evacuated by a joint team. While the residents survived, they took refuge temporarily at the Pagentan District Office," said spokesman for the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Abdul Muhari, in a written statement, Saturday (20/11/2021), as reported by CNN Indonesia.

In addition to the loss of life, the landslide also damaged two houses in Pagentan Village, Pagentan District, Banjarnegara.

The local Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) together with the TNI, Polri, Basarnas and other organizations have carried out emergency handling at disaster locations, such as evacuation and relief, logistics distribution and clearing of landslide materials. "BPBD has distributed logistical assistance in the form of sleeping equipment, bathing and food to displaced residents," said Muhari.

The landslide occurred after heavy rain accompanied by winds flushed the Banjarnegara area on Friday night. BPBD Banjarnegara Regency reported that rainy conditions caused a cliff as high as 25 meters to slide and hit two residents' houses below it.

Banjarnegara District is an area prone to landslides. The inaRISK study stated that the area is in a moderate to high landslide hazard category. A total of 20 sub-districts, including Pagentan, are a number of areas with such potential hazards.

"In response to the potential danger of landslides, local governments and the public are advised to always be alert and alert to conditions of high intensity and long duration rain," said Muhari.  [DDHKNews]
