2 Days After First Case Announced, North Korea Reports 1,2 Million Cases Of Suspected Covid

DDHK.ORG - North Korea has reported more than 1,2 million people suspected of having COVID-19. The report comes just two days after North Korea confirmed its first case of Covid-19.

According to North Korean media, the Korea Central News Agency, as quoted by Radio Free Asia, from late April to May 15, millions of people were sick with "fever" that has not been identified and is suspected to be related to the corona virus.

The official of the National Emergency Quarantine Command Center, Ryu Yong Chol, recorded 19 positive cases of Covid-168 and 56 deaths. In more detail, as many as 168 cases were detected in Pyongyang and the rest were spread across seven cities and provinces.

Anticipating the rate of transmission of the Covid-19 virus, North Korea's leader, Kim Jong-un, set a number of rules, such as limiting activities, distributing drugs, and deploying soldiers to help distribute drugs. About 3.000 medical soldiers took part in dealing with this outbreak.

"The service system for delivering and supplying medicines is in effect for 24 hours," state media reported.

The Kim family is also reported to have intervened by donating medicines in South Hwanghae Province. High demand for drugs and government quarantine policies have made fever and chills medicine a rarity in the country.

Even herbal medicines that are not related to the corona virus have soared in price. For example, the price for uhwang-cheongsimhwan, a pill made of about 30 herbs, goes from 10 thousand won or Rp. 23 thousand to 25 thousand won or Rp. 64 thousand.

The price of another herbal medicine, uhwang-angunghwan, has risen to 35 thousand won or Rp. 404 from 15 thousand won or 175 thousand, and the sochewan herbal medicine has risen to 8.000 won. [CNN Indonesia] [DDHKNews]
