Koran and Prayer in the Bathroom

DDHK. ORG – The bathroom is not the right place for worship, good prayer as well as study. But what if in a state of necessity and not possible?

Read Alquran including religious message which is at the same time a syiar belonging to Allah ta'ala which must be respected and positioned in its proper place

 Allah ta'ala says;

"Thus (God's commandment), and whoever exalts the symbols of Allah, then indeed it arises from the piety of the heart".

This is also similar to the Prophet Muhammad who did not answer someone greeting him while urinating.

“From al-Muhajir Ibn Qunfudz that he came to the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam, at that time he was urinating. Then al-Muhajir greeted him, but he did not answer, until he finally made ablution, then apologized to al-Muhajir while saying; I do not like to mention the name of Allah except in a state of purity.".

In general, the scholars differed on the ruling on reading the Alquean in the bathroom, some forbidding it and some forbidding it. But read Alquran can be done in a low voice or whisper using the gadget you have. Therefore, read Alquran can be done outside the bathroom unnoticed by the employer or someone who forbids it.

As for praying in the bathroom, if it is believed that it is clean or has been cleaned of impurity, it has the same status as holy places in other rooms, so praying in that place is still valid.

 The sanctity of the place is one of the requirements for the validity of the prayer being performed, so that in any place where there is uncleanness on the part of the floor where the limbs touch, the prayer in that place is not valid.

Likewise, a bathroom which is believed to be clean from uncleanness if prayers are performed in it, then the prayer is valid even though it is considered makruh, because the place is not properly provided for prayer, then it can give anxiety to those who pray in it.

As for the prohibition of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam not to pray in cemeteries and bathrooms, by some scholars also because they are concerned that the places are unclean and unclean.

The Prophet said;

Allah

"The entire surface of the earth can be studied as a place of prayer except for burials and bathrooms"

Any place on earth is worthy of being used as a place of prayer, such as fields, plantations, markets, malls, and so on as long as the place is holy. Among other scholars giving the reason that places such as cemeteries and bathrooms are not better places for prayer is because these places are places where the devil plays.

Imam Nawawi said;

وَاْلأَصَحُّ أَنَّ سَبَبَ النَّهْىِ كَوْنُهُ مَأْوَى الشَّيَاط above

"And what is more correct is that the reason for the prohibition is because it is a place for satans, so praying in that place is makruh tanzih, but the prayer remains valid. Allah knows best. [DDHK News]
