The First 5 Months of 2022 Indonesia Was Hit by 1.509 Natural Disasters

DDHK.ORG - In the first 5 months of 2022, 1.509 natural disasters occurred in Indonesia. Floods, extreme weather and landslides dominate.

"Update the distribution of natural disasters in Indonesia for the period January 1 to May 14, 2022," wrote the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), via its official Twitter account, Sunday, May 15, 2022.

According to the data, there were 592 floods, 550 extreme weather events, and 279 landslides. It was also reported that during this period there were 10 earthquakes.

Several other disasters reported by BNPB include forest and land fires (karhutla) as many as 70 incidents, tidal waves and abrasion as many as 8 incidents, and drought disasters as many as 1 incident.

A series of disasters has caused many victims. Among them, 87 people died, 625 people were injured, 11 people were missing, and 1.916.950 people suffered and had to evacuate.

In addition to causing casualties, a series of disasters also caused various damages. Among them, 22.924 houses with light to severe damage intensity, 376 educational facilities, 160 houses of worship, and 64 health facilities.
