Basic Food Arisan Law

ASKING:

Assalamualaikum.

Want to ask, chaplain. What is the law of the basic food arisan, then the money is interest. Every time for Eid, they are distributed in the form of groceries.

Is it haraam for those who receive it?

If we borrow the money, then just the principal loan is returned without returning the interest, how is the law?

thanks.

Salam,

Fulanah

ANSWER:

Wa'alaikumussalam warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

In principle, social gathering in various forms is permissible according to Islam, as long as the object of the arisan is halal (mubah) and no interest is required.

In general, this arisan is used to bind fellow participants, strengthen friendship, and ensure that participants trust each other. Although sometimes there are also those who take advantage of the arisan forum for other things that are not good, for example for gibbah (gossiping), showing off wealth, riya ', gossiping, and others.

However, actually this negative or positive thing can be separated from the law of the arisan system itself. Where the law of the arisan system stands alone and the others stand alone.

Even if the arisan fund is further developed, it can be in the form of profit sharing or used for buying and selling capital, so that the social benefits in the form of basic necessities are fine. But, keep the term interest or loan agreement with additional interest. Conversely, the term equity participation can be used for productive transactions that will later get profit sharing, or murabahah (buying and selling).

Lending and borrowing in Islam are part of muamalah, and there is a value of goodness for those who lend, provided that they do not apply interest in return. However, only return the principal loan for those who borrow due to urgent needs or the profit sharing system for those who enter into capital participation agreements in business matters.

Thus, wallaahu a'lam bish-showâb.

Regards!
