DDHK Laptop Assistance to Study Computer for Migrant Workers in Macau

DDHK.ORG - Dompet Dhuafa Hong Kong (DDHK) provided assistance in the form of a laptop unit to the Indonesian Taklim Council in Macau (Matim). The assistance is intended to support the computer learning activities of Indonesian migrant workers at the Matim shelter.

"We gave this assistance on September 6, for the purposes of computer training for Indonesian migrant workers in Macau, which was held by Matim," said General Manager of DDHK, M. Imam Baihaqi.

The provision of assistance originated from a request submitted by Ana, the Chairman of Matim, to Imam Baihaqi. "Because Matim's laptop has been damaged, including the laptop belonging to me and Mbak Indah (one of Matim's administrators), which previously was also used to study computers for friends at the shelter," said Ana, Friday (18/9/2020).

"And because of the Covid-19 Pandemic, very little funds have gone into Matim's treasury. So, I took the initiative to ask DDHK for help, in order to support people's learning activities, "he said.

Not long after, the request for assistance was welcomed. DDHK also sent the amount of money needed to purchase a laptop by Matim.

Ana conveyed that the computer class at the Matim shelter has been around since 2007. Since then, a count of around 40 migrant workers in Macau have studied in Matim's computer class.

In 2015, the computer class had stopped because the teachers had returned to Indonesia. Then, the Matim management led by Ana took the initiative to reopen computer classes since September 2019.

"Currently, there are five Indonesian migrant workers who study computers at the Matim shelter, because many have returned to their homeland," said Ana.

In fact, Matim has three computer teachers. Namely, Bu Rustianah, Bu Zeki, and Mrs. Nadhifa. All of them are Indonesian migrant workers who work in Macau.

However, currently only Mrs. Rustianah teaches. Meanwhile, Bu Zeki has returned to Indonesia, and Bu Nadhifa is not yet active again. [DDHK News]
