Again, About Prayer in Bed

Again, About Prayer in Bed

Peace, mercy and blessings of God

Ustadz, I want to ask a question.

The problem is praying in bed while sitting, but only at the time of Tahajjud and Fajr prayers, because my employer's child likes to get up and leave the room when I pray in the room. I sleep in the same room with my employer's child.

Please advise, Mr. Ustadz.

Thank you, Ustadz.

Greetings, Fulanah

ANSWER:

ليكم السلام الله ات

Bismillah… Standing for those who can afford it is one of the pillars of prayer, especially fardlu prayer. As for the sunnah prayer, it is permissible while sitting, even lying down (tilt to the right) as long as it is not supine, even though it is able to stand. This is because in the rules of fiqh it is stated that:

الل الفرض

"Sunnah is wider than fard".

Including the purpose of the above rules is that sunnah worship is more flexible than fard worship.

As for praying on the mattress, even the soft one, it is permissible. Make sure the mattress that we use must be pure from unclean. It's just that praying on the bed may be less comfortable when compared to praying on the floor. However, praying on the floor even with a prayer mat is better than praying on a mattress, especially soft ones, except for people who are sick, for example.

Thus it can be concluded that:

  1. Fardlu prayer may be performed on a bed but still standing, not sitting (except for those who are unable to stand because of illness, for example)
  2. As for sunnah prayers such as tahajjud, dluha, and so on, it is permissible to do it on a bed and while sitting, even if you are able to stand.

For the problem of taking care of the employer's child who likes to leave the room when the mother is praying, perhaps it can be conditioned as best as possible so that he does not leave the room again, such as by locking the room or giving him good understanding.

Hope it works!

Wallâhu a'lam bish-showâb.

Peace, mercy and blessings of God
