Anticipating demonstrators, Hong Kong's Airport Express Train Restricts Services

NEWS FROM HONG KONG

HONG KONG - Airport Express trains will only travel directly from Hong Kong station to the airport on Sunday (22/9/2019). The service restriction was carried out as an anticipatory measure to prevent anti-government demonstrators from heading to Chek Lap Kok airport.

“In a statement the Airport Authority said all trains would not stop at Kowloon, Tsing Yi and AsiaWorld-Expo stations starting at 9am. The check-in service at Kowloon Station will also be canceled tomorrow, "Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) reported, Saturday (22/9/2019) night.

Authorities said the move was aimed at ensuring the smooth running of the airport, given netizen protesters' calls to disrupt traffic heading for the airport. Protesters of the anti-extradition bill have targeted airports to bring global attention to their campaign. [DDHKNews]
