Asia Pacific Labor Activists Learn about TKI Problems

A total of 16 activist migrant workers from Asia Pacific visited East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, to study the various problems faced by Indonesian workers from East Lombok.

The visit of the Asia Pacific migrant worker activist was led by the Secretary General of the National Leadership Council of the Indonesian Migrant Workers Union, M. "We came to East Lombok to ask for an explanation from the local government about the problems faced by TKI who work abroad," said Khairul.

He said that these activists would explore various problems faced by Indonesian migrant workers abroad in order to find the best solution to overcome these problems.

According to him, the people of NTB quite a lot make a living abroad, either through official or illegal procedures. This is what the problem will be sought so that the problem is clearer and a solution can be found.

"This result will be compared with other regions and other countries, especially in finding the root of the problems faced by Indonesian migrant workers abroad," he said.

"Providing valid data is needed to find the best solution to the problems faced by these workers," he said.

Assistant II for Kersa for the Regional Secretariat of East Lombok Regency H. Napsi, representing the Regent HM Sukiman Azmy, said that the provision of jobs continues to be done to reduce unemployment.

"One of them is opening job opportunities and preparing job vacancies abroad, so it cannot be denied that East Lombok is a district / city in NTB that sends the most migrant workers to Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Jordan," he said.

The same was said by the Head of the East Lombk Department of Social Affairs and Manpower, H. Sirman, by saying that the number of workers in this area was 36.514 people, most of whom work abroad, especially in the informal sector such as plantations, buildings and household helpers.

He said that from 2006 to 2010, East Lombok Regency had the highest position in sending workers abroad, compared to other districts / cities in NTB.

"Meanwhile, the problem that the government still faces is that they go abroad illegally, use fake documents and do not understand the laws and regulations," he said.
