What's wrong with Rajab?

DDHK.ORG - The month of Rajab is a noble month in Islam. This month is the seventh month in the Hijri calendar, 2 months before the entry of Ramadan.

Rajab has not only been glorified by Islam since the time the Prophet was sent, but before Islam was present in the Jahiliyah community, they also respected this month.

Rajab means to glorify. The Arabs at that time had honored this month by preventing themselves from shedding blood and removing the blades attached to their spears, in order not to carry out their customary wars.

Even this month among them as a month of sacrifice and provide good food. They used to slaughter animals for honoring this month, unlike other months. Their ritual of slaughter is called Rajabiyah or 'Atirah.

Syahrul istighfar

This month includes the month we are asked to multiply istighfar. One of them that is highly recommended is the reading of Sayyidul Istighfar.

allah

“Allahumma anta rabbii laa ilaaha illa anta khalaqtanii wa anaa 'abduka wa anaa 'alaa 'ahdika wa wa'dika mas tatha'tu a'uudzu bika min syarri ma shana'tu abuu-u laka bi ni'matika 'alayya wa abuu- u bi dzanbii faghfir lii fainnahu laa yaghfirudz dzunuuba illaa ant(a).”

[O Allah, You are my Lord, there is no god but You who created me. I am Your servant, I will be faithful to my promise to You as best I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil that I have done. I acknowledge all Your favors on me and I confess all my sins (which I did). So forgive me, verily no one can forgive sins except You].

Habib Sholeh Al Jufry wrote that among what we read during the month of Rajab is remembrance:

اغْفِرْ لِيْ ارْحَمْنِيْ لَيَّ

“Robbighfirli warhamni watub 'allayya. [My Lord, forgive me, have mercy on me and accept my repentance]", read 70 times in the morning and evening.

Rajab fasting

Many scholars say that fasting in the month of Rajab is sunnah. There are various types of Rajab fasting, including:

  1. Fasting 1 day in the month of Rajab
  2. Fasting 1 to 10 Rajab
  3. Fasting Dawud (a day fasting, a day not)
  4. Fasting Monday and Thursday
  5. Fasting Ayyamul Bidh (13,14,15) Rajab
  6. Fasting for a whole month.

The rewards and sins are multiplied

Imam Tabary in his monumental commentary quoted from the words of the companions of the Prophet, Ibn Abbas, who said about the noble months. Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala glorifies this month and multiplies the reward of charity in it. However, the sins committed in these glorious months are also multiplied.

May Allah make it easy for us to do good deeds in the month of Rajab and give us strength to stay away from all evil, Ameen.

Wallahu A'lam.
