The Nature of the Prophet's Prayer: Sunnah Ab'adh Madzhab Shafi'iy (13)

DDHK.ORG - The practice of praying from the time of our ancestors to the present day generally uses the standard of prayer described by the Shafi'i school of thought. This is because the majority of the Indonesian population is generally the Shafi'i school of thought. The scholars who spread Islam in the archipelago, of course, were also scholars of the Shafi'i school of thought. So automatically the practice of prayer is based on the fiqh of the Shafi'i school of thought.

Through this series of articles, DDHK News describes the nature of the prayer of the Prophet Muhammad based on the Shafi'i school, as written by Muhammad Ajib, Lc., MA. in his book "Sahih Evidence of the Prophet's Prayer Ala Madzhab Syafi'iy".

We all know that the Shafi'i school divides the prayer into 3 parts. Namely the pillars of prayer, sunnah ab'adh and sunnah hai'at.

In this chapter we will discuss something that is included in the sunnah of Ab'adh. Sunnah Ab'adh is something that if left behind because of forgetting or intentionally left out then it is sunnah to prostrate sahwi with 2 prostration before greeting.

Sitting tasyahud early

Sitting tasyahud early in the rakaat of which the second law is sunnah with sitting position iftirosy. If left behind then our prayers are still valid, but it is sunnah to prostrate sahwi because the initial tasyahud sitting is included in the sunnah ab'adh.

In the matter of sitting on the initial tasyahud, the Shafi'i school used the authentic evidence narrated by Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim, "From the friend of Abdullah Bin Buhainah Radhiyallahu 'Anhuma, the Prophet prayed Zuhr with us, and he did not sit in the second rak'ah. When he finished praying, he prostrated himself twice and said greetings." (Hadith narrated by Bukhari & Muslim)

Reading tasyahud early

Reading tasyahud is a sunnah. Because just sitting is sunnah, let alone reading. That is, if there are people who sit tasyahud early but forget to read tasyahud then it is sunnah to prostrate sahwi as well.

The argument is the same as the saheeh argument above, narrated by Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim, “From the friend of Abdullah Bin Buhainah Radhiyallahu 'Anhuma, the Prophet prayed Zuhr with us, and he did not sit in the second rak'ah. When he finished praying, he prostrated himself twice and said greetings." (Hadith narrated by Bukhari & Muslim)

Reading the Prophet's sholawat in the early tasyahud

Likewise with reading the Prophet's sholawat at the initial tasyahud. If someone sits and reads tasyahud but does not read sholawat on the Prophet then it is sunnah to prostrate sahwi as well.

Imam an-Nawawi said: What is correct according to the ashabs is that it is sunnah to read sholawat at the initial tasyahud, because this includes sitting in which it is prescribed to read tasyahud. So it is also prescribed to read sholawat as in the final tasyahud sitting.
