So that the Hijrah is not 'Gatot'

By: Ustadz Talqis Nurdianto, Lc., MA.

When we migrate, we don't want to 'gatot' or fail miserably. So, it's good to see how his intentions are, who are his friends, how is his environment, and what is his hope for the hereafter? This is the minimum requirement that is important to be prepared so that the migration will continue to shine and become a lamp for others.

First, tighten the intention to emigrate and do good.

ﻓَﻤَﻦْ ﻛَﺎﻧَﺖْ ﻫِﺠْﺮَﺗُﻪُ ﺇِﻟَﻰ ﺍﻟﻠﻪِ ﻭَﺭَﺳُﻮْﻟِﻪِ ﻓَﻬِﺠْﺮَﺗُﻪُ ﺇِﻟَﻰ ﺍﻟﻠﻪِ ﻭَﺭَﺳُﻮْﻟِﻪِ ، ﻭَﻣَﻦْ ﻛَﺎﻧَﺖْ ﻫِﺠْﺮَﺗُﻪُ ﻟِﺪُﻧْﻴَﺎ ﻳُﺼِﻴْﺒُﻬَﺎ ﺃَﻭْ ﺍﻣْﺮَﺃَﺓٍ ﻳَﻨْﻜِﺤُﻬَﺎ ﻓَﻬِﺠْﺮَﺗُﻪُ ﺇِﻟَﻰ ﻣَﺎ ﻫَﺎﺟَﺮَ ﺇِﻟَﻴْﻪِ

"Indeed, every action depends on the intention. And everyone will get according to what he intended. So whoever migrates to Allah and His apostles, then he migrates to Allah and His apostles. And whoever migrates because of the world he wants to get or get the woman he wants to marry, then he migrates to what he wants. " (Narrated by Bukhari Muslim)

What's with the intention? This intention will determine the quality of a Muslim's practice, whether the value of worship is rewarding or simply a social humanitarian agenda or something else. Intention is also someone's wish before doing. The intention to distinguish between obligatory worship and sunnah, also distinguishes between one sunnah worship and another.

Maybe ukhrawi practice with worldly intentions, that's what he gets. Like, bersadekan is ukhrawi amalam. Because he wanted to be called and known by name in his community, that's what he got, in the form of popularity. While the ukhrawi reward was not achieved. On the other hand, worldly practices with ukhrawi intentions bear rewards in the hereafter, such as helping to carry shopping items onto a motorcycle with the intention of getting the pleasure of Allah.

This intention can fluctuate. The rise, when he feels a strong relationship between the perpetrator and Allah with the good he does and hopes to please Allah alone. Meanwhile, the decline is when the temptation comes in the middle of performing the worship or after it has finished at the past time in the form of riya (showing off).

Term tajdidunniyah (fixing the intention) means keeping the intention of the acts of worship done so that it remains focused on Allah, even though there are trials in the form of praise or reproach from creatures for what they do. As long as it is done according to Islamic law, the sincere intention will continue to reside in him and not shake with the two trials above.

Secondly,, have a good friend. The good point here is that this friend can be used as a role model for goodness according to Islamic law. Friends can also be in the form of halal life partners, teachers, clerics, co-workers, friends, relatives, or people who are willing to remind them in kindness.

The prophets of Allah also had good friends, who supported their preaching. Known with the friends at the time of the Prophet Muhammad, hawariyyun followers of Prophet Isa (AS), and also Prophet Musa (AS) who accompanied him in kindness, as in the word of Allah SWT;

 "And my brother Aaron, he is more fluent in his tongue than I am, so send him with me as my assistant to justify my (words); actually I'm afraid they will lie to me. "  (Surah Al-Qashas: 34).

How Harun became a friend of Prophet Musa in sending Fir'awn and his followers to believe in Allah and leave kufr.

Good friends are not those who are happy when you are bad, and difficult when you are happy. How to find a good friend? You can go to the taklim assembly for tholabul ilmi, come to the mosque, or come to a good place where good people are filled so that we can be motivated to do good too. Rasulullah SAW reminds us of the hadith below;

“A person who sits (is friends) with a righteous person and an ugly person is like being friends with the owner of misk oil and a blacksmith. If you are not rewarded with the misk oil by him, you can buy from him or at least get the smell. As for being friends with a blacksmith, if you don't find your body or clothes burnt, at least you can smell bad. " (Narrated by Bukhari)

As in the hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah;

You have to judge the religion of your friend

"A person is in accordance with the religious level and morals of his close friends. Therefore, pay attention to who will be your closest friends. "

Third, strengthen the science of monotheism and practice it. The science of monotheism which studies faith in Allah and makes Him one. Faith is covered with pious deeds, spurs oneself to learn and practice these righteous deeds. This pious deed completes the faith of a believer.

"The believers who have the most perfect faith are the best in character." (HR. Tirmidhi)

Knowledge is already owned, friends are on the side, and a good community or society is with him, so efforts to strengthen one's hijrah are easier than fighting alone.

“Allah confirms (the faith) of those who believe with this unwavering word in life in this world and in the hereafter; and Allah misleads the wrongdoers and Allah does what He wills ”. (Surah Ibrahim: 27).

Fourth, always praying to Allah to be given hospitality in his hijrah. The good intentions of the servant which are manifested in actions will be surrounded by trials that shake the intention and behavior in kindness. Therefore prayer will help strengthen 'azam migrating in the way of Allah,

"O our Lord, do not make our hearts inclined to astray after You have instructed us, and give us mercy from Your side; because in fact You are the Most Giving Essence (gift) ”. (Surah Ali Imran: 8).

"O Essence of the Most Turning hearts, strengthen my heart above Your religion." (HR. At-Tirmidhi).

 "O Allah, the One who directs the heart, direct our hearts to always obey You." (Narrated by Muslim).

Prayer is a weapon of believers. No one can use this weapon except the believers. Therefore, always praying and munajat to Allah is a praiseworthy morality for the servant to his Rab.

Fifth, exert yourself in kindness. There are several practices that need to be maintained continuously. For example, committing to wearing a headscarf when leaving the house or meeting strangers at home, maintaining ablution in everyday life and if it is canceled, then immediately ablution.

"The practice that is most loved by Allah Ta'ala is a continuous practice even though it is a little." (HR. Muslim)

Hopefully we get guidance in doing good and avoid disobedience even if there is an opportunity. [Tq] [DDHK. ORG]
