Anger has a history. The story of anger is in the Qur'an. From the story revealed by the Qur'an, we will know, which anger is obligatory, which anger is forbidden, and which anger comes from lust.

First, in Sura Al-A'raf, verses 11-25, contains the story of Allah's anger at Satan, Allah's anger at Prophet Adam, and Satan's anger at Prophet Adam. Did Allah immediately get angry when Satan refused to bow down to Prophet Adam? Not! Allah asked Satan first.

Then, does God not know the reason why Satan refuses to bow down to Prophet Adam? Allah knows, but Allah wants to teach, when Satan will answer, it will be proof.

The lesson is, we shouldn't punish someone with what's in his heart. We can only punish someone by what he said and heard by us, and by what he did and saw by us. We shouldn't punish someone based on what prejudice is in his heart.

God's anger towards Prophet Adam is more accurately described as a firm attitude which has a deterrent effect. Allah's anger at Prophet Adam is different from His anger at Satan, because there is a role for the devil to make Prophet Adam make mistakes and violate his commitment to Allah.

The lesson we can take, first ask the person concerned, if there are people who do not do what we are told or make mistakes. Is it because he intends to do it on purpose, or because there are provocateurs.

When God expelled the prophet Adam and Eve from heaven even though they had apologized and repented, God wanted to teach that there are times when mistakes are not enough to be redeemed by apologies. However, there must also be assertiveness that can provide a deterrent effect.

Second, in Surah Al-Maidah, verses 112-115. Allah was angry with the Children of Israel. Where Allah has given them miracles and gifts that never break, at the time of the Prophet Moses. However, they still worshiped cows.

These verses tell of Allah's anger against the Children of Israel with what is called punishment. At the time of Prophet Jesus, when Allah granted their request, Allah was so angry and stern, that they were called a people who were wrathful, and given a punishment that was never inflicted on anyone.

Third, in Sura Al-Hashr, verses 1-3. Allah was angry with the Jews of Medina. This is because they wanted to kill the Messenger of Allah. In fact, they had an agreement and agreement with the Muslims to live peacefully together in Medina.

Fourth, in the letter Hud, verses 44-47. Just as Allah was angry with Prophet Adam, Allah was also angry with Prophet Noah, not because they intended to transgress. Prophet Noah made a mistake because of his disobedience as a human and then realized his mistake.

Fifth, in Sura At-Tahrim, verses 1-5, Allah has also given different versions of the Prophet Muhammad, Siti Hafshah, and Siti 'Aisyah.

From this history of anger, we can map, there are several types of anger. First, there is anger which is disliked, or forbidden. That is:

  1. Satan is angry with humans, which is anger for no reason.
  2. Angry suddenly without information and agreement.
  3. Angry over an accidental mistake.
  4. Anger driven by revenge and oppression.
  5. Angry who is reluctant to forgive even though the problem has been resolved, as reminded by ALlah Ta'ala in Surah At-Taghabun, verse 14.

Second, there is anger which is recommended. Even if we don't get angry, we sin. That is:

  1. Angry over a deliberate mistake, such as adultery.
  2. Angry over the violation of commitment, such as the case of the Prophet Khidir to the Prophet Musa, as well as the case of husband and wife nusyuz.
  3. Angry over disobedience and punishment. Do not be left alone and just see immorality.
  4. Angry over mistakes and ignored for introspection.
  5. Angry and resolute in dealing with arrogant people.

If, for example, humanely, we are really upset and want to be angry, consider the following things. First, avoid getting angry at the following times:

  1. Fajr and Asr time, because this is the time the angels recorded daily reports.
  2. Monday and Thursday, because of avoiding anger for 3 days and doing the angel's weekly report to God on the record of our actions.
  3. More than 3 days.
  4. Muharram, Sha'ban, Ramadan, and Shawwal, as these are the months that are glorified.

Second, pay attention to our body position, and immediately change that position. If you want to be angry when you stand up, then immediately sit or lie down, to thwart anger.

Third, hasten to cool the heat of the wrath of Satan by doing wudlu when the peak of anger comes.

Fourth, sentences that come out of our mouths when angry are:

  1. Ta'awudz, the sentence to protect oneself from being too far as the devil's temptation.
  2. Not issuing words of reproach and curses, worrying becomes prayer instead. Apalabi, between mother and child.

Fifth, avoid abuse others with physical violence.

All of these are endeavors that need to be supported with prayers. Ask God so that we can control anger. Also, so that our hearts remain calm when facing any problems. [DDHK News]
