Guidelines of the Prophet when eating and drinking

DDHK.ORG - Nothing is denied and nothing is lost on his instructions and behavior when eating and drinking. Whatever is offered from good food, he eats it. Unless the food was not pleasing to his heart, he left it without forbidding it.

He never criticized any food. If he wishes, he eats it. If he doesn't like it, he lets it go, like the lizard meat he left behind, because he doesn't usually eat it.

He used to eat sweets and honey, and he liked it. He has also eaten beef, lamb, chicken, birds, rabbits and sea fish. He has eaten roasted meat, wet and dry palm, drank whole milk, wheat dough, drank milk dough, ate milk and flour dough, mixed meat bread and others. He did not refuse good food and did not force himself to eat it.

His habit is to eat just as much. If he doesn't have food, he is patient. He even propped his stomach with stones because of the hunger that attacked him.

He does not eat while supine, either on his back on the stomach, sitting as in final tahiyat, or resting one hand on the floor and the other is used for eating. These three methods are despicable. He used to eat on the floor on a mat, and at the same time as a place to eat.

Before eating, he said tasmiyah (chanting the name of Allah) and accordingly he said hamdalah (reciting alhamdulillah). When it was completely finished, he said a prayer:

"Alhamdulillahi hamdan katsiron thoyyiban mubarokan fihi ghoiro makfiyyin wala muwadda'in wala mustaghnan 'anhu robbana."

Meaning: "Praise be to Allah with lots of praise, good and full of blessings in it, not neglected and ignored and needed by our Rabb." [Source: Mukhtashar Zaadul Ma'ad (Provisions Towards the Hereafter), Ibn Qayyim Al-Jauziyah] [DDHK News]
