Eating Fried Chicken and Burgers at Sahur Can Make You Weak All Day

DDHK.ORG - Consumption of food during fasting, especially at dawn, must be considered so that nutrition is still fulfilled. Citing several sources, CNN Indonesia launched several food menus that should be avoided at dawn because they can make you weak during fasting.

Quoting Eat This, Not That!, dietitian and author, Lauren Manaker, said that fried chicken is a food menu that can make you weak. “Even though this dish is delicious, eating it can make one feel sluggish. Fried foods, such as fried chicken, can be difficult to digest and tend to be more 'heavy' foods. The combination of fat and salt used can make people feel overwhelmed and don't feel refreshed." he said.

Another nutritionist, Lisa Young, said that white bread can also make the body weak. Because, unlike white bread from wheat and whole grains, white bread is made from refined grains that have lost a lot of nutrients during the process.

“Refined grains such as white bread and white pasta contribute to decreased energy. They are digested quickly, sending blood sugar levels soaring. When blood sugar suddenly drops, energy levels drop,” says Lisa.

One of the foods that are also not good for consumption at dawn are bananas. CNN Indonesia launched, this fruit contains tryptophan, potassium, and magnesium which are effective in relaxing muscles and reducing anxiety.

"To avoid this side effect (muscle relaxation), you should combine bananas with foods that are high in protein and B vitamins for energy supply. You can combine bananas with almond jam or protein shakes," wrote CNN Indonesia.

Another food to avoid at suhoor is burgers. This one food seems to be able to meet our needs thanks to layers of meat, a little vegetables, and bread that contains carbohydrates. But do not expect nutritional needs will be met from a burger. Instead the body will feel heavy and sleepy after eating it.

"Carbohydrates with little or no fiber, such as white bread, provide us with energy quickly in the form of glucose but this can lead to drastic energy drops," says nutritionist Keri Grans. [DDHKNews]
