Gathering Holds, DDHK Publishes 2021 Program Report

DDHK.ORG - On Sunday, January 2, 2022, Dompet Dhuafa Hong Kong (DDHK) held a Big Family Gathering event at the BNI Hong Kong hall, Admiralty. The event, which was held in compliance with health protocols, was attended by around 100 people.

Among those present were the Indonesian Consul General, Ricky Suhendar; Director of BNI Remittance Limited, Indra Kusuma; Executive Director of BRI Remittance Company Ltd., Dimas Hendrasaputra; I Gede Wija Kusuma Saputra, Assistant Vice President, International Remittance Sales at Bank Mandiri; and the chairman of Telin Hong Kong, Kartia Rausen Irwandi Silalahi. Also present were members of the DDHK Board of Directors, Medya Putri; Posmih President, Ustadz Mahmudi Abdussalam; as well as the board of the DDHK da'wah partner assemblies.

On that occasion the General Manager of DDHK, M. Imam Baihaqi, conveyed the implementation of the DDHK program throughout 2021. “DDHK manages public funds. So we need to report our activities, donated funds and their distribution to the public," he said.

"The activities we carry out in 2021 consist of 3 pillars. Namely, social, da'wah, and training," said Imam Baihaqi.

In the social sector, this includes migrant care activities. Through this program, DDHK helps by providing cash or airplane tickets to return home for migrant workers who need help. DDHK also provides shelter services for migrant workers who are waiting for a visa, have their employment contract terminated, and who need temporary accommodation while their employer is on vacation outside Hong Kong. DDHK also regularly visits prisons and hospitals.

Every month, DDHK distributes donations to Indonesia to help build and repair mosques and prayer rooms, provide clean water, aid for the sick, and orphanages. Assistance was distributed through members of the Volunteer Team, program participants, and the board of the taklim assemblies of DDHK's da'wah partners.

DDHK is also active in distributing aid to victims of natural disasters in Indonesia. “Migrant workers in Hong Kong and Macau are very generous in helping disaster victims in Indonesia. They are active joint ventures for our brothers and sisters who are being hit by a disaster in the country," said Imam Baihaqi.

In 2021, DDHK will also receive and distribute sacrificial funds from people in Hong Kong and Macau.

Imam Baihaqi also explained that one of the reasons Dompet Dhuafa being present in Hong Kong is because there are so many Indonesian people who need spiritual cleansing. In response to this need, DDHK regularly invites ustadz to go around giving religious tausiyah to the taklim assemblies managed by Indonesian citizens in the Land of Concrete.

"To help reduce stress because during one week of work, Indonesian migrant workers need spiritual cleansing," said Imam Baihaqi.

At the moment of the DDHK Big Family Gathering, Imam Baihaqi explained the 2021 DDHK public expose.

During the pandemic, DDHK could not bring in Ustadz. "Finally, we provide religious tausiyah online," said the father of 3 children.

"But thank God, last week DDHK was able to bring in an ustadz to help da'wah activities in Hong Kong for one year in the Dai Ambassador program," said Imam.

DDHK also provides a "Tanya Ustadz" hotline number. "For friends who want to consult about any problem, please ask via WhatsApp message to the hotline number +852 5298 2419. Questions and answers will be displayed on the ddhk.org website," he said.

In addition, DDHK also regularly holds tutoring for reading and reading the Qur'an.

During the week of work, Indonesian migrant workers in Hong Kong get a day off. It is better to use the holiday time well, so that while working abroad they not only earn money but can also improve their skills as provisions when they return to Indonesia.

"DDHK provides several trainings, such as English, sewing, computers, sports, and online lectures in collaboration with the Ahmad Dahlan Institute of Technology and Business Jakarta," said Imam Baihaqi.

As many as 100 migrant workers were recorded to have used the DDHK shelter service from January to November 2021. Most of them were waiting for a visa, 44 percent. They have finished their work contracts and found new employers, then wait for visas at the shelter.

The rest, 24 percent because their work contract was terminated, 11 percent waiting for their return to Indonesia, 11 percent staying overnight for various reasons, 3 percent because the employer is traveling abroad, and 7 percent because they have just given a one month notice to the employer.

The statistical data for the consultation "Tanya Ustadz" is quite interesting. There are several issues that are usually consulted by Indonesian migrant workers.

"Most of it is about fiqh muamalah or relationships between people. One example, if you visit a sick person, how do you pray? What is the best way to communicate with employers?” said Imam Baihaqi.

They also consult a lot about the fiqh of worship. For example, asking about what is the law and how to pray in the toilet, what is the law and how to pray without facing the Qiblah because you have to, pray on a bed, and the law of praying together five times.

"Migrant workers ask a lot of questions regarding worship while working," said Imam.

Many also ask about the fiqh of marriage. "For example, questions about online marriage, want to get married but don't have a partner yet, how do you get married in Hong Kong."

Some also asked about the calculation of zakat, the distribution of inheritance, reading the Koran, recitation, or women's fiqh. Also, about how to take a junub bath.

DDHK assesses that communication media is very important to support program implementation. On that basis, DDHK always updates information via Facebook, Youtube channels, Instagram, and the ddhk.org website. DDHK's media channels also shared various information conveyed by the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong through its official Facebook page.

Consul General Ricky: don't forget the original destination to Hong Kong

In his remarks at the event, Consul General Ricky Suhendar congratulated DDHK as a humanitarian agency in Hong Kong for its performance report for one year working to help all Indonesian migrant workers in Hong Kong. On that occasion, he reminded Indonesian migrant workers in Hong Kong not to forget their purpose of migrating to the Land of Concrete.

“All of us in Hong Kong come from various parts of Indonesia with one goal, namely to work, to have a better life. So this is what we need to remember. Why do I say this? Because many of our friends are busy, social, and forget the main purpose of coming to Hong Kong," he said.

Consul General Ricky also invited migrant workers in Hong Kong to continue to develop their skills. "Of course you can't do it alone. Of course, through various existing community organizations, especially DDHK," said Consul General Ricky. [Nurhalima] [DDHKNews]
