Ulama: Stop Apostasy in Aceh!

The Acehnese clerics called on the parties to immediately stop acts of apostasy against Muslims in the province.

"We call on those who are carrying out apostasy acts to stop acts that are contrary to the spirit of religious tolerance," said the Head of the Aceh PWNU Tgk H Faisal Ali in Banda Aceh, Tuesday [28/09].

This was conveyed in relation to the emergence of cases that indicate attempts at apostasy (silencing aqidah) against Muslims such as in West Aceh and Bener Meriah.

"We are very serious about investigating several cases of apostasy efforts and it is no longer an issue, but is actually being carried out by non-Muslim elements. So, once again we urge that it be stopped immediately, "he explained.

Aceh, which has a Muslim majority, has now implemented Islamic law in various aspects of life. "Aceh does not reject the arrival of outsiders, even though it is non-Muslim, but there should be no attempt to replace the Islamic faith with other religions," he added.

Faisal Ali, also Secretary General of the Aceh Dayah Ulama Association (HUDA), appealed to non-Muslim leaders in Aceh to make a statement to the public that the apostasy was carried out by irresponsible individuals.

"We consider it important to make early prevention efforts to avoid unwanted friction from occurring in Aceh. It is enough that Aceh has been hit by decades of conflict and let the people of our area feel calm and safe, ”he explained.

According to him, apostasy efforts have been going on for a long time, especially after the tsunami of 26 December 2004 and the Aceh Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency (BRR) has anticipated it through the formation of an integrated team.

Therefore, Faisal also appealed to the Aceh Provincial Government and the Central Government to take steps to stop efforts to convert Muslims in the province nicknamed the Veranda of Mecca. (ANTARA / Afternoon News). *
