Indonesian Football Grieves, Hundreds of Victims Died After Arema Vs Persebaya Match

DDHK. ORG — Indonesian football is in mourning again. An incident broke out at Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang, East Java after the game Arema FC vs Persebay Surabaya, Saturday (1/10/2022), became a new dark sheet in Indonesian football.

The tragedy began when Aremania took to the field after their favorite team lost to their arch-rivals. The unfavorable situation forced the security officers to act. As a result, chaos and panic occurred, especially in the stands area of ​​Kanjuruhan Stadium.

Based on a number of reports, this tragedy claimed many victims. The East Java Regional Police released that the victims of the Kanjuruhan Stadium tragedy who died until this news was broadcast on Sunday (2/1/2022) reached 127 people, including two police officers, namely Brigadier Andik and Brigadier Fajar (BKO Polres Trenggalek).

"127 people have died, two of them are members of the National Police," said the East Java Police Chief, Inspector General Nico Afinta, to reporters at the Malang Police, as reported by detikJatim, Sunday (2/10/2022).

The number of victims reportedly continues to grow and there are several tweets on social media that say 153 have died. However, the number of 127 fatalities has put the tragedy in Kanjuruhan in second place in the history of world football.

Response team Dompet Dhuafa East Java @ddjatimorg responding in the form of alerting an ambulance to mobilize the deceased to be brought back to the funeral home and providing logistical services when searching for family members.

In addition, the team also looked at the possibility of providing other services for vulnerable groups such as toddlers, children and the elderly, as well as creating information posts to search for missing or injured family members with the East Java Zakat Forum (FOZ).
