Hong Kong again extends social distancing rules

DDHK.ORG - On Tuesday, August 9, 2022, the Hong Kong Government announced that the existing social distancing measures were being extended until August 24. Basically, the daily number of COVID-19 cases in Hong Kong is still high at the four digits, with the overall number of hospitalized patients consistently exceeding 1.000 with no sign of a steady downward trend.

"The cases associated with the mutant strain of the Omicron sub-lineage BA.4/BA.5 are also increasing," the Hong Kong government website news.gov.hk reported.

All catering establishments and scheduled venues remain permitted to operate subject to strict adherence to anti-epidemic requirements, the wearing of masks for residents at transport operators and certain public places, as well as a ban on group gatherings in public places, still remain in effect.

The government noted that with the introduction of red and yellow codes under the Vaccine Pass. COVID-19 patients will be given a red code, and travelers entering from overseas or Taiwan will be categorized with a yellow code.

"Thus, the person in charge of the relevant premises must deny entry to the above-mentioned persons in accordance with the relevant rules."
