Hajj and Sacrifice: Grounding the Values of Social Piety and Dialogical Learning with Al-Haqq towards Internalization of Haqq (Part 1)

Then We revealed to you (Muhammad): "Follow the religion of Abraham, a hanif" and he is not one of those who associate partners with God. (QS. An-Nahl : 123)

It is undeniable that every human being in any religion, by nature, has an interest in worshiping and communicating with his Lord. Therefore, God wisely always determines a certain place for every religious community to gather to worship and communicate in order to get closer to Him.

For followers of the Abrahamic religion of the United States, Allah SWT has determined the illegitimate land of Mecca as a place to carry out the shari'ah of the pilgrimage and sacrifice, since Ibrahim AS and Ismail AS received the mandate of worship until the Prophet Muhammad was sent to perfect the sharia mandated by Allah SWT to his two ancestors.

After Khalilullah Abraham AS. finished building the Baitullah, it was said to him: "O Ibrahim, call out and order people to perform Hajj!". Ibrahim said: "O Lord, how can I do it, while my voice does not reach (because it is far away and no one is around)". Allah SAW said: "do it (call) and I will convey it to them".

Then Nabiyallah Ibrahim climbed the hill of Abi Qais, and shouted: "O people, indeed Allah has ordered all of you to make the pilgrimage to this temple, so that you will be rewarded/entered into heaven and saved from hell. Perform the pilgrimage!”.

To this call, every human being who is in the sulbi bones of men and women's wombs, answered with beautiful sentences, namely with talbiah: Labbaikallahumma Labbaik, Labbaika La Syarika Laka Labbaik, Innal Hamda wan Ni'mata Laka wal Mulk La Syarikalak.

Ibn Abbas said that was the origin of talbiyah echoed, namely when Allah SWT ordered Ibrahim to call people to perform Hajj. (Al-Qurtubi 2:2097). With regard to this event, Allah SWT immortalized it in Al-Quran as written above (Surah 22:27-28).

Every year, millions of pilgrims from all corners of the world flock to the two holy cities, to fulfill the fifth pillar of Islam. In 2021, the test for the Indonesian people for the second time does not send pilgrims due to the Covid-19 condition that continues to plague. We hope and pray to Allah that next year the conditions will be better and the Indonesian people can send another guest of Allah to be part of the millions of Muslims in the world from various backgrounds, ethnicities, and nations, blending into one, united in the same worship in the holy land. .

Of course, their hearts are full of hope that the once-in-a-lifetime worship can be accepted as a mabrur pilgrimage. Moreover, the reward for a mabrur pilgrimage is the best reward. Rasulullah SAW said: "... and there is no reward for Hajj Mabrur except paradise (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim).

It has become a rule that Allah SWT does not command a case but in the case that is ordered there is a benefit, there must be goodness for humans. And, it is not prohibited from a case but in the prohibited case there is a harm. The above verse states "Liyasyhaduu Manaafi'a Lin Naas..."So that they can see the many benefits / benefits of the pilgrimage.

Some Benefits of Hajj

First, Hajj is the greatest worship and in accordance with the purpose of human beings created by Allah SWT (Qur'an 51:56). The category of worship is the biggest, because a person is not only required to be prepared materially, but physically and psychologically is also required to be prepared. There is no doubt that in the pilgrimage all aspects of worship are gathered; bodily (physical), maliyah (financial) and qalbiyah (heart/mental), and are not found in other worship.

Secondly,, Hajj is a conference of Muslims worldwide, to get to know one another, a meeting place for various nations, languages, skin colors, and socio-cultures where exchange of information, economy, knowledge, and so on is very possible.

Third"Hajj is a vehicle to strengthen the unity and integrity of the Muslims,"Verily, your ummah is one ummah" (Surah 21:92). Symbolically, the pilgrimage shows that the Muslims are one people, worshiping the one God, following/following the example of one prophet, reading one Qur'an, facing one Qibla, praying in one Baitullah, gather/wukuf in one place, and so on, all of which will strengthen Al Ukhuwah Al Islamiyah. "Verily, Muslims are brothers" (Qur'an 49:10).

FourthThe pilgrimage provides awareness about equality and justice in rights and obligations among Muslims. This is indicated by the non-discrimination of the procedures for performing the rituals of Hajj, Berihram, etc. between the rich and the poor, the ordinary ONH and the Plus. But humans or Muslims will be distinguished by their level of piety. "Verily, the most honorable of you in the sight of Allah is the most pious" (Qur'an 49:13).

FifthThe pilgrimage reminds us a lot about the human journey to the eternal land (hereafter). Hajj is a rihlah ruhiyah / spiritual journey which is a miniature of the real journey that all humans will definitely go through, namely the journey of the hereafter. This pilgrimage contains the philosophy of human journey in the hereafter.
