Muallaf does not have to carry out prayers that were not done before converting to Islam

ASKING:

Assalamualaikum, Chaplain.

Alhamdulillah, thanks to Allah's help, my relationship with my child and husband got better again. My husband again allowed me to reconnect with my child. Thank you for the advice, Ustadz.

I (as a convert) am still learning to pray. I ask for your help to explain, the procedures for conducting prayer. Because some say only 2 cycles, some say 4 cycles. And, what about the prayer intention if it is discussed in Indonesian language?

Thanks.

Salam,

Fulanah

ANSWER:

Wa'alaikumussalam warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

Alhamdulillah ... I'm happy to hear that. May the harmony of our family always be maintained.

If a convert to Islam, then there is no need for him to do the prayers that he has not done as long as he is not a Muslim / Muslimah.

But if it is Muslim / Muslim, then is it obligatory for her to perform the prayers she left behind? There are 2 opinions:

  1. Mandatory qadla (jumhur ulama)
  2. Not obligatory qadla (Hanafi, Dhohiri)

My advice is that he keeps his prayer qadla according to the number he remembers and counts. May Allah guard our prayers.

If the intention to pray is not pronounced, then it is enough in the heart. Even if it is pronounced, it is sufficient to replace the word adã'an into qodlõ'an.

Example:

"Ushollí fardlosh shubhi rok'ataini adã'an lillãhi ta'ãlã."

Becomes…

"Ushollí fardlosh shubhi rok'ataini qodlõ'an lilláhi ta'ãlã"

Wallâhu a'lam bish-showâb.

Regards!
