Used Wudu Water to Wash Clothes, Is It OK?

DDHK. ORG – Can water used for ablution be used to wash clothes? Legal water used to remove hadats is water that is holy and purifies that is absolute water.

How about this water used for ablution? Can it still be used to wash clothes?

As reported Republika, in the book Fathul Qorib by sheikh Al Imam Abi Abdillah Muhammad bin Qosim Al Ghozi or Ibn Qosim Al Ghozi there is a discussion about holy water but cannot purify it for others (tohirin ghoiru mutohir lighoirihi), namely musta'mal water namely water that has been used to remove hadats or to remove uncleanness.

An example is water that has been used for ablution. Then the water cannot be used for purification again.

Unless the water exceeds two kulahs, then the water remains holy and purifies even though it has been used for ablution.

It's another case when the water is a little or less than two kulah, then the water that has been used for ablution is called musta'mal water.

If the water is small and has become musta'mal (for example because it has been used for ablution) then it may be used for washing such as washing clothes or kitchen utensils to remove stains provided there is no impurity.

And the third part, it is water which is pure in substance but cannot purify anything else. It is musta'mal water (water that has been used) to remove hadats or to remove impurity.

It is considered musta'mal if the water does not change and the amount of water does not increase after the water is separated from the thing being washed by calculating the part of the water absorbed by the object being washed. [DDHK News]
